I was training hard. My coach had me doing up to three workouts a day—two cardio sessions plus intense strength training, six days a week.
And it was working. I was lean. I was tapped in. I was strong.
But I was suffering for it.
I was eating as little as possible, believing that was the only way to keep my weight and body composition just right. Just enough to keep me going, but never more.
One day, it suddenly became too much.
Before I knew it, I was doubled over in the gym trying to breathe through the worst pain I have ever felt.
Exhausted, burnt out, and malnourished, my body had finally said enough.
I rushed to the hospital feeling like my stomach was about to split open.
They ran a bunch of tests—checking for food poisoning, appendicitis, anything that could explain the blistering abdominal pain.
But it was way simpler than that.
And once I discovered the reason, my only question was: why didn't this happen sooner?
The doctor looked at me and said, "Nikki, you're full of shit."
Literally.
I had restricted my diet so much that my body couldn't even push the food through anymore.
Yes, this is apparently a real thing that can happen. And I probably wouldn't have believed it until it became my reality.
Here's why I'm telling you this:
You can restrict yourself in the short term. You might even see some tangible results from it.
But the longer you suppress your body's natural needs, the harder you'll crash—and the faster the weight will come right back.
Even if your willpower lasts, your body won't.
